Demon’s Souls 2 ‘100%’ Not Happening, says Atlus

Rumors were swirling around that suggested that we might be seeing a sequel to Demon’s Souls, but publisher Atlus shot down these rumors however. Atlus PR Manager John Hardin wrote on Playstation Blog, talking about Demon’s Souls 2, that he “can 100% confirm there will NOT be a Demon Souls 2.”

Atlus published the North American version of Demon’s Souls, whereas Sony published it in Japan and still technically owns the IP. Rumors that Sony has been prepping a sequel to the game started last year. The 2009 PS3 exclusive received a spiritual sequel in Dark Souls, which came out in 2011. The game was a multiplatform title, coming out for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, and was published by From Software and Namco Bandia Games.

Dark Souls 2 is set to launch in a couple of weeks, on March 11th, for PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC version will release slightly later. From has also stated several times that the game’s engine was built with next-gen in mind, suggesting that we might be seeing it debut on Playstation 4 and Xbox One sometime in the near future. The game has quickly become one of the most anticipated for 2014, mainly due to the series’ staple brutal difficulty.
