Former ‘Mob Wives’ Star Suing Rockstar

Former ‘Mob Wives’ star and daughter of retired gangster Sammy Gravano, Karen Gravano, is suing Rockstar for illegally using her likeness and life story in Grand Theft Auto V. The NY Daily News reports that Gravano is suing the developer for $40 million, one-half for punitive damages, the other half for compensation.

Gravano claimed that during a random encounter mission titled ‘Burial’, the player meets a character called Antonia Bottino who bears a strong resemblance to Gravano in both physical appearance and back-story. When first starting the mission, the player encounters Bottino bound and about to be buried alive. After she’s helped by the player, she explains that her father is the retired Gambetti crime family underboss Sammy Bottino. Mr. Bottino went into witness protection program as part of a plea bargain.

However, Gravano’s father was a crime family underboss as well, for the Gambino family. He also became a government witness as part of a plea bargain. As the lawsuit states, Gravano “has the utmost respect for the writers and creators of the Grand Theft Auto 5 video game, her story is unique and is hers to tell.”

Rockstar was also threatened with legal action by Lindsay Lohan for using her “likeness” without permission. Rapper Daz Dillinger also sued the studio for using music without permission and demanded all copies of the game to be recalled.

We’ll update with any new developments.
