MGS 5 Dev Defends Ground Zeroes’ Length

It has since been revealed that the prequel to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes, will only take around 2 hours to complete. Naturally, this became a huge point of concern for fans willing to purchase the $30 product and Konami has endured heavy criticism for their asking price.

Kojima Productions designer Jordan Amaro explained, however, that a game’s length has nothing to do with its quality.

“Are Journey and Dear Esther long? [Voltaire’s 18th-century writing Candide] is like a hundred pages at most,” Amaro said. “Yet they are masterpieces of video game and literature. This smearing will not stain and affect what we’re aiming to achieve with MGS, the game industry in Japan, or video games as a whole.”

“I want people to celebrate the new MGS like we used to. I’m not dismissing their concerns. But this [issue surrounding the game’s length] has been trumped-up,” Amaro said.

However, both Journey and Dear Esther cost $15 and $10, respectively. Nearly half the price of what Konami is charging, which ranges from $20-$40 depending on the platform.
