PlayStation 4 Update 1.60 Brings Wireless Headset Support, Available Later Tonight

Sony announced that PlayStation 4’s next software update, version 1.60, will bring support for wireless headsets and is slated to be available late tonight.

Update 1.60 will allow players to use their standard Pulse and Pulse Elite Edition headsets, the former of which we recommended for anyone with a PlayStation 3. The update will also enable 7.1 virtual surround sound in the previously mentioned headsets.

In addition to the added support, Sony also announced the Gold Wireless Headset. It offers noise cancellation, 7.1 virtual surround sound, and custom audio modes created by developers that are made for specific PlayStation games. The headset is compatible with PS4, PS3, PC, and PS Vita, the latter of which via an audio cable.

To take advantage of the developer audio modes, users will need to download the free Headset Companion app, which will be available in the PlayStation Store sometime in February. The app will also allow users to make custom EQ settings. The first game to deliver custom audio modes will be Infamous: Second Son.

The Gold Wireless Headset will launch in early February for $99.99. Of course, for those who can’t fork over the money, keep in mind that there is a relatively decent headset bundled with the PlayStation 4.
