PS Plus Subscriptions Triple Following PS4 Launch

Sony UK boss Fergal Gara revealed, during the the PS Vita Slim event in the UK, that the number of PS Plus subscriptions has tripled following the launch of the PS4 in November.

Gara highlighted that needing PS Plus to play online undoubtedly played a role in the increase, but he also argued that the value PS Plus offers was a driving force behind the uptake.

Red Barrels’ horror title Outlast will be offered for free for PS4 Plus subscribers in February. This follows Metro Last Light, Payday 2, and Remember Me for PS3 Plus subscribers. Vita owners will also receive Street Fighter X Tekken and ModNation Racers: Road Trip for free as well.

The Vita Slim will be available for purchase in the UK starting on February 7, 2014. It will be priced at £180 and will include an internal 1GB memory card and Wi-Fi. The Slim is 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the current model, and contains a 5-inch LCD display in lieu of the OLED screen. The new screen supposedly helps the battery last up to an hour longer.

A release date for the US wasn’t discussed at all, but we’re sure it’ll eventually make its way here.
