Update: Watch Dogs Still Available For Wii U
Update: Sources at GameStop US have clarified that the dispearence of Watch Dogs as a pre-order option for the Wii U was caused my a computer error. The game is available for pre-order at GameStop Italy and will be available in the US as well.
Original Story: GameStop Italy claims to have canceled all pre-orders for the Wii U version of Watch Dogs. First reported by Italian Nintendo site Wiitalia, a GameStop employee has claimed that Ubisoft scrapped this version of the game after the retailer phoned customers telling them their pre-orders had to be withdrawn.
A major, if not the only reason why both Ubisoft and GameStop have opted to cancel this version is because of the Wii U’s increasingly doubtful future. Several days ago, Nintendo reported that its sales expectations for both the 3DS and Wii U have miserably failed, and that the company had to slash its sales forecast by a considerable amount. Nintendo might also be prepping a new home console much sooner than expected.
It seems that the French publisher and developer doesn’t want to waste resources and time with developing for an extra system. Watch Dogs is already set to come out on six different platforms, and the sales loss that might be associated with not releasing it on Wii U doesn’t seem to concern Ubisoft all that much.
But the game will most definitely be coming out for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC sometime between April and June 2014.
