Update: Sony Offers Solution For PS4 Error

Update 1: Sony has offered a solution for the Error CE-34878-0. It is as follows:

“If you are experiencing this ce-34878-0 error code, please close the application and then install the latest system software and game patch. If the error occurs again, initialise the PS4 system after back-up of the save data and please also submit any crash reports after re-booting your console when the error occurs.”

Original Story: According to a 35-page PlayStation forum thread, a Playstation 4 error has been corrupting save files for many users, resulting in hours of lost progress and, even in some cases, has prevented any apps being opened on the console.

Posts on the thread identify the issue as Error CE-34878-0. The files that are being reported in relation with the problem are Fifa 14, Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and NBA 2K14.  (Editors Note:  I have personally ran into this problem in NBA2K14.)

One user told Joystiq that, because of the error, he lost over 30 hours of progress while many other users have reported that they can’t open any of their consoles’ apps, rendering it completely useless.

A handful of users reported that deleting said files solves the issue and allows for the apps to be playable, but many other users said the process did not work for them. No singular solution has been found yet. Sony hasn’t responded to the problem, nor has the issue been made entirely public as of now.

It seems Sony isn’t the only one having problems with their next-gen console, as it was discovered yesterday that Microsoft had been bribing Youtubers for positive Xbox One coverage.
