Pachter: If The PS4 Stays Cheaper, Xbox One Won’t Catch Up
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes if Sony’s PS4 remains cheaper than Microsoft’s Xbox One, the latter console won’t be able to catch up anytime soon.
During the latest episode in Gametrailers’ Bonus Round, Pachter said that as long as the PS4 is the cheaper console, it’ll be “impossible” for Microsoft to catch up.
“They’ve won as long as they have a $100 price advantage,” Pachter said. “Microsoft will not turn that around. It’s not possible.”
Sony’s latest sales reports revealed that the PS4 has managed to sell 4.2 million units in 2013, making the console the fastest selling system in the industry’s history. The Xbox One, however, has also managed to sell a healthy 3 million units in the same allotted time period.
Both consoles also have relatively the same amount of software available, with the Xbox One arguably edging out the PS4 by one or two titles. 2014 looks to be an important year for both. The new year will have several significant exclusive titles for both that might improve their sales numbers. Infamous: Second Son and the highly anticipated Titanfall are two prime examples.
