Ubisoft Partners With Tetris to Bring Iconic Game To Next Gen Consoles

According to a Ubisoft press release on Jan 16, Ubisoft has partnered with The Tetris Company to develop Tetris for Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 consoles.  Little is known about the newest installment yet.

Tetris was originally released in 1984 for several computing systems, and was developed by computer programmer Alexey Pajitnov.  Many of the popular themes in the original game that are still ingrained in the minds twenty- and thirty-somethings of the world were originally Russian folk songs.

“We welcome Ubisoft to the Tetris family. I am 100% sure they will develop one of the best versions of the Tetris game ever,” said Henk B. Rogers, managing director of The Tetris Company.  It will certainly be interesting what new features and interesting graphics Ubisoft can bring to the table.  Previous console versions have been popular and well designed, like Tetris Splash.

Ubisoft co-founder Yves Guillemot, oftentimes the face of the company, had this to say:

We’re very excited to start working with this world-renowned brand, and can’t wait to combine Ubisoft’s expertise and all the capacities of next-gen consoles to create an exciting new Tetris experience for fans.

Whatever comes of this, it simply means the continuation of one of the longest running video game franchises in history.
