Starbound Getting Next Patch In A Week, Final Character and Ship Wipe
According to the Starbound website, Chucklefish is wrapping up a few final touches on the next update. The next patch should be released in about a week, around January 21. The patch brings major bugfixes and new features to the game.
Some of the fixes apply to memory leaks, some to crashes, and some to usability features like the right shift key not functioning as intended. Some of the new additions are permadeath and drop-everything-on-death game modes. These essentially add some difficulty to Starbound that some members of the community had been requesting, since many people who are getting used to the game are reaching deep into the tech tree fairly quickly, with little repercussions for death.
Other additions are new weapons, more hats, more random encounters, and other features still in development.
One big thing this patch brings is the final character and ship wipe. The patch will also wipe worlds, but there remains the possibility of world wipes in the future. The save system improvements the patch brings allows the saving of characters and ships over patches.
“The problem is that the organization of planets may change so if they go muck with a planet, how do we put it in the celestial map? Or if they build on a biome we remove, or something. So no promises, but we’ll try. But promises on the player / ship.” – Kyren, Chucklefish
