Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for PC Currently Not Playable Offline
Having just launched today, the PC port of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is currently not playable offline. In other words, it seems as if players will need an Internet connection in order to play the port.
Over on NeoGAF and reviews on Steam, several users have reported that attempting to play Revengeance offline will automatically close you out of the session. “This game will not run without an internet connection,” reported Steam user TescoValueName. “And unless your internet connection is completely stable it also doesn’t work. Try opening it without an internet connection and it [immediately] closes. When my internet connection drops out while playing, the game instantly bombs out.”
Meanwhile, on NeoGAF, Parsnip echoes the reports. “Looks like Rising doesn’t work at all if your internet goes out or if you put Steam in offline mode.” Of note is the fact that, according to Revengeance’s Steam listing, there is no mention of any kind of online requirement.
Over on Twitter, Platinum Games Creative Producer J.P. Kellams said that, while this seems like news to the development team, he will look into the problem:
No idea. I’ll ask first thing. RT @GeneralDysisa: something preventing people from playing the game unless online. Glitch or intentional?
