Wasteland 2’s Brian Fargo Teases New Screenshots, Beta Release Date

Over the last few days inXile CEO and game industry veteran Brian Fargo has tweeted a pair of new screenshots from his upcoming tactical computer role playing game Wasteland 2. After launching an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign last year, the team has been hard at work crafting an old school adventure fused with modern advances. Numerous and frequent updates have been posted through Kickstarter and the game’s website dictating the entire development process from writing and art design to gameplay mechanics and tactical combat. A few months ago, inXile released a gameplay demo of one of the areas in the game, the Prison, that showed off tactical combat, choice-driven gameplay, and the unique post-apocalyptic world steeped in 1980s culture.

The first screenshot looks like a similar area shown in the video (if not the same), and shows new additional UI elements, a grid overlay, and characters in a new crouching position. The second gives off a decidedly darker vibe by showing an indoor location, and some lovely descriptive text very much like the recently released (and also kickstarted) Shadowrun Returns (read our review). Wasteland 2 was originally slated for release in October of 2013, but like nearly every game development has been pushed back to allow more time for polish, iteration, and bug squashing. Last Summer, a Kickstarter update slated beta testing to begin in earnest in October, but that too has been slightly delayed. It looks like beta testing will hopefully begin in December, as Fargo tweeted on Monday,

A release date for the final game has yet to be announced as Fargo was quick to follow up:
