Grand Theft Auto V Coming to PC in 2014?
According to sources over at Eurogamer, Grand Theft Auto V will get a PC release around early 2014.
This isn’t to be completely unexpected though. While Rockstar may have been coy about answering anyone’s questions about a PC or next-gen release, every GTA game since GTA III has been on PC.
Hopefully this will help calm the near 600,000 people who signed the petition for a PC version and help them sleep a little easier.
If you take a moment to flash back in time, there have been multiple times when a PC release has been hinted at.
During an Asked & Answered session with Rockstar in July, they were asked about the PC release of GTA V but were very cautious with their answer. They went along and said that they weren’t worrying about PC or next-gen hardware at that time, but were completely focused on the making the best experience for PS3 and Xbox 360.
The PC launch for GTA V has also been outed a few times by others involved with the games industry. Back in August, GPU manufacturer Nvidia’s senior director of investor relations Chris Evenden listed GTA V with other confirmed games during a financial call.
[PC] gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Assassin’s Creed 4.
This was later called back by Nvidia and they then stated they have no idea when GTA V may be available for PC and apologized for the error.
Also, while it may definitely not be a confirmation since it happens all the time, retailers have been posting pages for the PC version of GTA V for a few months now, having them quickly taken down afterwards.
Remembering the PC port in December ’08 for GTA IV, one can only hope the port for GTA V will turn out a little better. Not having it plagued with framerate issues and having to deal with the Games for Windows LIVE platform would be a big enough plus for me to consider a purchase.
