Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Remake Announced
Mystery Game X has been revealed! Phoenix Online Studios have announced a collaboration with original series creator Jane Jenson’s new studio Pinkerton Road in developing a modern remake of Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. This year marks the groundbreaking adventure title’s 20th anniversary, with the remake scheduled for release in mid 2014 as a digital download for PC, Mac, iPad, and Android. You can follow development at the game’s new website, check out some lovely comparison shots over at Phoenix Online Studios’ news post, and discover the original classic adventure game on gog.com. The title was formerly known as “Mystery Game X” and was one of two adventure games being funded by Jenson’s Kickstarter project last year.
Both adventure game studios have met previous success on Kickstarter: Phoenix Online in developing their first major commercial release, episodic adventure Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller, and Pinkerton Road’s very existence and first developed title Moebius, scheduled for release in 2013.
“I’m thrilled to be back at work on Gabriel Knight and to bring this classic game to a new generation of players,” says Jensen. The remake will feature high resolution graphics as well as a remastered soundtrack. “It’s going to look and feel like a brand new title. But never fear, 100% of the original Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is here. I hope both existing fans and new players will love it.”
Working on a modern remake of one of his favorite games is a dream come true for Phoenix Online Studios CEO Cesar Bittar: “Sins of the Father is a groundbreaking masterpiece that changed the history of video games and created its own subplot in the Adventure genre. There was nothing like the incredibly rich and well developed characters, the amazing texture of a thriller/horror story told in its many layers through the grandiose locations of New Orleans. […] All of us at Phoenix Online are so happy to be doing our part to revive this irresistible Schattenjäger back to the place he deserves.”
