Persona 4 Ultimate: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold is the Sequel to Persona 4 Arena
The sequel to Persona 4 Arena was announced today, and it’s officially called Persona 4 Ultimate: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold. Seriously.
Persona 4 Ultimate: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold is releasing in Japanese arcades in the winter of 2014. Unfortunately, no console versions have been currently announced. The sequel will have all Persona 4 Arena characters, as well as three new additions to the roster: Yukari Takeba, Junpei Iori, and Sho Minazuki. Yukari and Junpei are both characters from Persona 3, while Sho Minazuki is a brand new character. Also, every fighter in the game (with the exception of Shadow Labrys and Elizabeth) will have an alternate playable shadow version of themselves.
From a gameplay perspective, it’s tough to determine changes to the fighting system from just a trailer. One particular thing I did notice, however, was that some of the characters don’t have four Persona cards anymore. This might be a gameplay change to better balance the relative power of each character’s Persona.
But it’s really the story I’m most looking forward to in Persona 4 Ultimate: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold. Persona 4 Arena did an excellent job of satisfying both Persona fans and hardcore fighting game fans, and hopefully the sequel can do the same. I’m particularly curious to see how the new character, Sho Minazuki, plays in the greater fiction. Maybe he’s the link between this game and Persona 5…
