Deep Down will be Free-to-Play

Capcom has announced that their upcoming title Deep Down will be free-to-play on the PlayStation 4, with an open beta targeted for a date near the Japanese launch of Sony’s next gen console on February 22, 2014.

What the nature of the game will now be and how microtransactions will be utilized is unknown at this point, but Deep Down joins a handful of other free-to-play games set to release on the PlayStation 4 including Blacklight: Retribution and another unannounced title.

Deep Down is a unique action game that takes place partially in a futuristic New York and centers around the main character’s ability to touch relics and travel through time. The core gameplay appears to be a dungeon crawler that has led many to draw parallels between it and Dark Souls, although some previews of the game suggest that the game’s combat is not quite as fluid as that of the tough-as-nails action RPG darling.

Stay tuned for more news about Deep Down as we near its release next year.
