Inafune’s Mighty No. 9 Surpasses its Kickstarter Goal
Only a few days after launch, Keiji Inafune’s Kickstarter Project Mighty No. 9 has surpassed its initial goal of $900,000. At the time of this writing, the project has received $1,031,755, with 17,717 backers for the project, and with 29 days left to go, it’s more than guaranteed that the game will be getting additional funding before its campaign is through.
Mighty No. 9 is a game considered to be something of a spiritual relative to Mega Man, as it stars a virus-resistant robot named Beck who’s been tasked with saving the world from machines turned evil. After defeating certain types of said evil machines, Beck is able to acquire their abilities and transform himself to be able to utilize them. The game is a 2D sidescrolling action platformer in the same style as classic Mega Man games, and if you ask this writer, Beck looks almost exactly like a character ripped straight out of the Mega Man character lineup.
Of course, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as Mega Man fans have been clamoring for the blue bomber to make a return for some time. If this project lives up to its promises, it might just be exactly what they’ve been wanting.
Mighty No. 9 is currently slated for a Spring 2015 release on PC, with other platforms a possibility via stretch goals.
