EA Sales Flat But SimCity Hits 2 Million

EA (Electronic Arts) sales for the first quarter are flat, bringing in 955 million, just a tad above 949 million from one year ago. Profits over all are up from 201 million to 222. The increase in sales is mostly due to digital sales, 482 million this year compared to 342 million of last year. EA’s Origin has surpassed 50 million registered users, 22 million of which are mobile users exclusively.

Frank Gibeau, labels president for EA told GamesBeat about SimCity passing 2 million copies sold, “Since then, we’ve sold more than 2 million units, and the number of people logging in and playing is holding steady. SimCity is a success.” But Frank made sure to talk about the issues surrounding SimCity like the always online requirement, summing it up as an “experience nobody wants to live through again”.

With the feedback they received from the fans about the always online, EA has announced that the Sims 4 will be offline.

We listened to the feedback on SimCity and decided that The Sims 4 would be built as a single-player, offline experience.
