2013 Pokemon US National Championships Will Bring Thousands To Indianapolis

Pokemon is about to get a whole lot more competitive with thousands of Pokemon Trading Card Game fans and video game players flocking to Indianapolis for the 2013 Pokemon US National Championships. Players will be competing for a place in the 2013 Pokemon World Championships in Vancouver, Canada.

The 2013 Pokemon US National Championships runs from July 5th-7th, and celebrates the culmination of a year of battles, trades, and training. Participants from around the country who have either worked to create an immense Trading Card Game deck or have battle-tested an unbeatable team in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 will be battling for the top places in two categories: video games and the trading card game. One video game player and one TCG player from each of the three age categories will be crowned the winners, and will be representing the United States at the World Championships this August.

The Pokemon US National Championships is one of the largest and most prestigious Pokemon TCG and video game events in the world, and it provides a great opportunity for fans and players throughout the United States to come together and have fun playing the games they love. The event has continued to grow over the last few years and is a great opportunity for attendees to form new friendships and reunite with old friends, and perhaps win a trip to Vancouver for Worlds.

The quote above is from J.C Smith, director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokemon Company International, and is only a fraction of the excitement fans will be feeling at this prestigious event. The winners from this event will earn an invitation and Travel Award to the 2013 Pokemon World Championships in addition to Championship Points, thousands of dollars in scholarship awards, a Pokemon National Championship trophy, and other Pokemon-themed merchandise.

For those interested in how the tournament works, it is held using a Swiss tournament format, which guarantees players the opportunity to play several rounds regardless of their win-to-loss record. It means you still have a chance of making it though if you have a bad game, which is great news for any player. The 2013 Pokemon TCG US National Championships will begin on Friday, the 5th of July at 9AM, and the Pokemon Video Game US National Championships will begin on Saturday, the 6th of July at 9AM. Both events will be taking place in the Indiana Convention Center, and will conclude on Sunday, the 7th of July.

To commemorate this event, attendees who bring their Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS consoles and a copy of Pokemon Black, Pokemon White, Pokemon Black 2 or Pokemon White 2 can participate in a special character distribution (hurray for freebies!), and will receive a powerful Metagross based on the one used by World Champion Ray Rizzo in the 2012 Pokemon World Championships.
