FUNimation Announces Evangelion 3.0 Acquisition
After acquiring a million likes on Facebook, anime distributor FUNimation announced via its Facebook that it has acquired the rights to Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, the third film of the revamped Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise that feels like it took remastering lessons from George Lucas.
While fans of the English anime distribution company cheer, they also let out a collective “Duh!” considering that FUNimation was the one that had the rights to the first two Rebuild of Evangelion films. It rarely happens that different distributors get the rights to the same franchise.
With better animation, some tweaks to the original story, and the addition of a new pilot to appeal to anime fans of girls wearing glasses, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo continues the war between man and angels. The films are more streamlined to show off action and simplify the plot, but tended to cut out all the character development and moral debates that made the original series more appealing than the average action schlock. And there are more opportunities for merchandising too. George Lucas would be proud.
More details about release dates and how much of the original English voice cast is staying on for Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo as it develops.
