Free Games for Xbox Live Gold Members Wishlist
Today as part of Microsoft’s E3 conference it was announced that both new and old Xbox Live Gold members will be receiving 2 free games per month until the release of the Xbox One. This month Microsoft is giving away Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2 as free Xbox Live Gold games. But what other games should make the cut in the upcoming months?
I expect that many games will be like Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2, earlier games in ongoing series, and maybe games with sequels coming out on the Xbox One. Here is my wish list of reasonable, and good titles that should make it onto the Xbox Live Gold free games roster:
Oblivion will always be one of my favorite games of all time. But now its 7 years old, Skyrim has come out and taken hold of the Elder Scrolls fans. What a great time to release this awesome title for Xbox Gold members to try out as one of their free games. This game would give nostalgia to half the Xbox Live Gold members, and a necessary video game experience to the other half. I’ve played this game more times than I can count, but I’d love to get another copy (mine has been played and lended to the point it no longer works).
Red Dead Redemption
This title is pushing it a little bit. I doubt that Microsoft is ready to release a game for free that came out only a couple years ago in 2010. But if they are willing to give away titles this recently released, than Red Dead Redemption needs to be on that list. Very few games are as replayable, both in terms of storyline and gameplay, than Red Dead Redemption. This game will last the test of time and it’d be nice to hold onto this game as we trek into the unknown next generation.
Grand Theft Auto 4
In preparation for the release of GTA 5, Grand Theft Auto 4 makes for an obvious choice. Not only will it get players pumped up for GTA 5, but it’s just a solid game that any gamer could spend a couple of hours running around in. Can you believe the game is already 5 years old? It seems like just yesterday GTA 4 was just released yesterday. I’d rather have Red Dead Redemption make the cut, but if not, Grand Theft Auto would be a nice replacement
Fez is an indie platformer that came out as an Xbox exclusive last year. Since then it’s been ported to the PC, but Fez will always remain a game that needs to be played with a controller in your hand, and would make an excellent free Xbox Live Gold game. It’s a more recent release than other’s on this list, but came out with an indie pricetag, not an AAA one, and could make the cut in the upcoming months. Fez is just one of the indie games that the Xbox Live Gold members need to try out, but it’s definitely one of the better ones.
Xbox Originals Collection
Before a new generation comes out is a time for reflection. For playing games that used to be your favorites. To try out the games that were released years ago that you never had a chance to try. So for one of our “free games” Microsoft should give us a little collection of original Xbox titles, not just Xbox 360 titles. Games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Halo 1… hell, even Fuzion Frenzy would be nice to mess around with for a minute or two.
