Scorpion To Join Injustice: Gods Among Us
Scorpion, one of the flagship characters of the Mortal Kombat franchise, has been announced as the next DLC character for the recent game Injustice: Gods Among Us. Originally restricted to characters from the DC universe of comic books, the addition of a Mortal Kombat fan favorite is an odd one. Like a lot of things in the gaming industry nowadays, there will most likely be some sort of outlash against the developers for this, especially by the people who purchased the season pass. This season pass guarantees the purchaser four DLC characters to be released after the game’s release. Three of the four characters have been announced, with Scorpion being the third. The previous two characters did indeed originate in the DC universe, following the setting of Injustice.
While some Mortal Kombat or Netherrealm veterans may be excited for Scorpion’s appearance, the oddest part of this DLC news is that the DC universe is insanely populated, with hundreds of characters from which to choose. Another thing to note about this new character is that the fatality system from Mortal Kombat is not present in Injustice: Gods Among Us, and the Scorpion DLC will not be adding it. What this means is that a character from Mortal Kombat will not have access to their fatalities, which will most likely feel odd for the first couple of matches when you go to “finish them.”
Nevertheless, Scorpion is a trademark character for the entire fighting game genre, and his inclusion into this game will likely draw skeptics to the game who did not want to play a game that only includes comic book characters. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if other Mortal Kombat characters join the fray at a future date.
Injustice has been met with a great critical reception, and the addition of characters is nothing new to the fighting game genre. One of the main complaints with the game, however, is that unlike Mortal Kombat, all of the characters are unlocked from the start, and there are no characters that can be unlocked by doing odd or difficult tasks.
