Xbox One Will Require You To Connect To The Internet Once A Day
Microsoft have announced that although Xbox One doesn’t need a constant internet connection to play games, you will need to connect to the Internet once every 24 hours.
Speaking to Microsoft’s vice president, Phil Harrison, Kotaku have reported that in order to play video games on your Xbox One, you’ll need to connect to the Internet once a day, which is bad news for those with unstable or non-existent connections.
Harrison also mentioned that if you’re playing a single player game that doesn’t require an internet connection, you’ll be able to continue playing it, even when your Internet is off or down but it’s not clear what will happen if you have no connection for over 24 hours.
We can only assume that the reason for this once per day connection is the new licencing system, which means each Xbox One game must be tied to your Live account. The connection is likely needed to verify you do indeed own the licence to the game.
Microsoft don’t seem to be answering the questions surrounding this Internet connection or licencing system very clearly and of course the time frame of the 24 hours checks could change. Harrison himself didn’t seem very sure at just how often the Xbox One will need to check your connection.
One thing is for sure, Xbox fans will not be happy at this news, especially if they live somewhere with a poor Internet connection or simply don’t have access to one on a regular basis. Microsoft need to answer these questions straight on, to avoid even more rumors and worries appearing all over the internet.
