Old School Survival Horror Darkwood Launches Indiegogo Campaign
The first trailer for Darkwood got my attention almost immediately.
Based on a three and a half minute trailer, I am incredibly excited for Darkwood. The indie title is legitimately near the top of my “most anticipated” list for the forseeable, and unforseeable, future.
It’s clearly inspired by roguelikes with its procedurally-generated sandbox world which is different every time, and hardcore permadeath mechanics. It also rings of adventure horror games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with its Eastern-European atmosphere and RPG and trading elements.
The most exciting thing is that they’re going for a perfect balance of horror and survival. You’ll have to keep up ammo, barricade buildings, patch yourself up. Ooooh I love this stuff.
This is the Pre-Alpha trailer which is so exciting:
In order to secure the game’s release and existence, The Acid Wizard just launched an Indiegogo campaign to get $40,000 in the next month. If they don’t meet the $40,000 goal, they get $0.00.
Above is their crazy, crazy appeal video, where the wizards, among other things, play Snap with the Floppy Disks of legendary games like Another World.
Again, this looks like it could be a great game, and if you’re a fan of survival horror or roguelikes, please give it some support. Again, donate, even just a little bit, right here.
From the game’s website, here are some features. I totally dig what this game is going for:
No hand holding, tooltips or linear paths. Think, learn and adapt – if you will behave recklessly or do not prepare for the night, you will not survive.
Darkwood is a dangerous place and death lurks around every corner. If you die, your savegames get deleted and you have to start over. But not all of your progress is lost, as some things carry on to your next incarnation.
A breathing, procedurally generated world for you to explore. Each visit to Darkwood is unique, as all locations and events are randomized.
