Nordic Games Acquire Darksiders, Red Faction and MX Vs. ATV Rights
Darksiders, Red Faction and MX vs. ATV were some of the latest assets to be acquired by Nordic Games. These come in the light of the THQ bankruptcy auction, with the second auction only just ending recently. It was quite surprising when Darksiders wasn’t snapped up straight away, and it’s about time that the adrenaline-fueled series found a new home.
Today, Nordic Games, the publisher of Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, announced their $4.9million deal to pick up some of the remaining franchises in the second round of auctions. They managed to pick up most of the assets in the auction, including Stuntman, Juiced, and Destroy All Humans. Lars Wingefors, CEO of Nordic Games, released the following statement about the purchase:
First and foremost, we are very happy about this deal which also turns over a new leaf for the entire Nordic Games Group. In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles. A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new installments of acquired IPs.
Fans will be pleased to know that the Darksiders franchise, whose future was in question previously, will be continued. While Nordic Games were the only company who made an offer anywhere near the internal reserve price THQ asked for, they plan to continue the sequel. They even promise to maintain the high values set by the previous 2 games. In the Nordic Gamers forums there are already threads asking what fans want from the next installment. Reinhard Pollice, Production and Business Development Manager at Nordic, said:
The tale of the Four Horsemen has not been told to an end. So far we only know the story of War and Death but what about the other two? How will it go on?
What did you enjoy most about Darksiders and Darksiders II? What did you absolutely dislike? What kind of Darksiders game do you wish should be created next?
Please let us know!
He then continued with:
Naturally, we don’t have any sure plans for the future of the series as we don’t even have a development team.
So for now we will be analyzing the situation and try to figure out whats the best option.
One thing is sure: The tale of the four horsemen is not over!
