EA to Close Playfish Facebook Games on June 14th
EA has announced that they will be retiring the Playfish games on Facebook June 14th. SimCity Social, The Sims Social, and Pet Society will all be going the others EA has pulled off their Facebook account. The only game left in the ring is Madden Social 13. EA’s announcement is due to the lack of activity with these social games.
The announcement is not that far off from last weeks layoffs of around 160 people from the Montreal Mobile division. There are also rumors of closures in London, where Playfish was located, Brazil, and BioWare Social. All these are related to EA’s mobile branch, so it comes as a no brainer that this is probably the end result. EA originally bought Playfish for 300 million in 2009.
