High Moon Studios’ Deadpool Team Facing Layoffs
Kotaku is reporting the unfortunate news that Activision has laid off 40 people at developer High Moon Studios. The lay offs come entirely from the studio’s Deadpool team, who notably just finished development of the game due out later this year. Activision released a statement below.
“Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues – this is an ongoing process. With the completion of development on Deadpool, we are taking a reduction in staff at High Moon Studios to better align our development talent against our slate. Approximately, 40 full-time employees will be impacted globally. We are offering those employees who are impacted outplacement counseling services.”
This is not an entirely new trend in the industry, to layoff staff after game development is finished, many times studios hire on extra staff to work on the project and if there is no place for them to go afterwards they are let go. Regardless, it is no less disheartening for anyone currently working in the industry let alone prospective developers.
