Minecraft on PlayStation a Possibility, Wii U Version Very Unlikely

After appearing on Xbox Live Arcade, Minecraft had a meteoric rise to become the best selling XBLA game of all time.  Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, also signed an exclusivity deal with Microsoft, but once that runs out, Mojang might be considering to port to Sony consoles.  There’s no word yet on when this exclusive deal with Microsoft will end.

Jens Bergensten, a developer for Mojang, said that once the exclusivity deal with Microsoft runs out, “we’ll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely.”  Sorry Wii U owners.

This is just one more shot to the gut for Wii U owners.

Bergensten also elaborated on Minecraft Pocket Edition, which is the iOS and Android version.  Mojang is apparently working on it to make it feel more like the PC version of Minecraft by adding dedicated servers to improve the multiplayer.

Minecraft on XBLA now has sold over 5 million copies since its release in May of 2012. The development of the Xbox port has handled by 4J studios, and the game became profitable after just one day on the marketplace.

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Minecraft itself becomes a sentient being and starts taking over the world, one country at a time.
