Co-Founder Jason West Leaves Respawn Entertainment

One-half of the duo behind the vaunted Modern Warfare series has left his new company, sources indicated today.  West has cited family reasons for the departure, which has reportedly been in effect for almost a year.

After the extended legal battle between former publisher Activision and Respawn, it seemed the future looked bright for West and his partner Vince Zampella.  The lawsuit was eventually settled, EA picked up the rights to publish Respawn’s new game and for a bit all seemed almost right with the world.

The departure of West (left) leaves Respawn under even larger scrutiny.

Citing multiple sources, who asked to remain anonymous, Kotaku reported that West has been gone since May of last year, around the time the lawsuit was finally settled.  There has been no word about how this will affect their upcoming title, which has been rumored to be shown at E3, but you can’t just lose a talent like West and expect it not to have an effect.  West is another example of a high-profile developer leaving his gaming company, continuing a saddening trend from 2012.
