Facebook Target Of A “Sophisticated Attack,” Says No Data Was Compromised
According to Facebook’s blog post, the social networking juggernaut was the target of a “sophisticated attack.” It says it “occurred when a handful of employees visited a mobile developer website that was compromised.” Facebook also goes on to explain that the attack is directly linked to an unseen zero-day exploit that was able to bypass the Java sandbox. As a result of the bypass, malware was installed on the computers in question.
As soon as the exploit was discovered, Facebook immediately contacted Oracle, which was thus able to issue a patch on February 1st. Even though it was attacked, according to Facebook, it has “found no evidence that Facebook user data was compromised.” In addition, the company notes that it was not alone in the attack. As soon as Facebook discovered the hack, it notified other companies and entities and shared information about the hack. If you wish to keep on reading the explanation, hit that source link. Hit it like the not-so-decent thing it is.
