Sales of The Witcher Series Reach Five Million

CD Projekt Red, the Polish developer of The Witcher series, has announced that sales of the franchise have now reached five million, an increase of one million since July 2012.

The developer’s CEO, Adam Kicinski, noted the release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings on Xbox 360 was largely responsible for the surge in sales. Sales of the series would stand at more than 9.5 million were it not for illegal downloads.

To celebrate the new sales milestone, CD Projekt Red has lowered the price of The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 to $30,  The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut ($5) and The Witcher 2 ($10) are also 50 percent off on GOG and Steam until February 8.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been announced for 2014 the game promises to be open-world and larger than Skyrim. It will also be the last game in the series.
