The Top 5 Youtube Sketch Comedians

One constant in many of my recent lists outlining the best Youtube can offer is comedy. Comedy is very prevalent on Youtube, from vlog comedy to classic sketch comedy. Sketch comedy is probably my favorite kind of comedy, and Youtube has some very entertaining sketch comedy, much of it exclusive to the site. Here are my favorite sketch comedians on Youtube.

5. 5 Second Films
5 Second Films is one of the most unique channels on Youtube. The channel is not a misnomer at all; every film on the channel is roughly five seconds long. This group is incredibly good at packing comedy into a very short time period, and their films are always entertaining and very addictive to click through because of their negligible length.

4. College Humor
College Humor can be hit or miss with its sketch comedy, but when it hits, it hits hard. College Humor runs a series called Jake and Amir that has been hilarious at times, bland at others, but has certainly been iconic in the Youtube world. In addition, many random sketches have become very popular, and are very well-made.

3. Funny or Die
Funny or Die is a production company well-known for its collaboration with high-profile celebrities like Will Farrell and Tom Brady. The company has its own website, but it posts all of its videos on Youtube as well. Notable series’ include Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns (where Zach awkwardly interviews various celebrities) and Drunk History (where drunk celebrities attempt to explain topics in our great nation’s storied history).

2. Smosh
Smosh is the popular channel on Youtube, and for good reason. Their comedy ranges from ridiculous to insane, and their over-the-top style is very entertaining and is a perfect fit for Youtube. This duo of Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla are the perfect example of a Youtube rags-to-riches story, and now the duo operates too many Youtube channels to count, including a vlog channel, a cartoon channel, and a gaming channel. Smosh is definitely one of the most iconic channels on Youtube today.

1. Key & Peele
Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, both former cast members of MADtv, created this sketch comedy show for Comedy Central, and release most of their sketches on the Comedy Central Youtube channel. This show is not technically Youtube exclusive, but it is also the funniest thing I have seen on Youtube in a long time. Key and Peele have incredibly interesting, wacky ideas, that range from smart parodies to more slapstick, Saturday Night Live fare.
