Mega List: The 60 Things A New PS3 Owner Should Buy

In a Leviathyn Mega List we explore 50 or more games, downloads, accessories, random thoughts, events, or anything else that deals with gaming and other forms of entertainment. Why settle for just 5, 10, 15, or 20 points in a list when you could have closer to a hundred?

For our inaugural Mega List, I felt that it would be best to explore the 60 things a recent or brand new PS3 owner should look into buying.

Obviously buying a PS3 is an expensive thing to do right off the bat. However, buying a new console also creates what I like to call “New Gadget Syndrome” where you want to buy everything under the sun and amass a collection unless any other for your brand new toy.

Problem is, you have all this pent up buying energy but may not know what to get. No worries, weary consumer! Here are Leviathyn we have compiled a list of 55 games and 5 accessories you should buy for your shiny system.

Prepare to consume… the Mega List!

10 Must Have Exclusives

  1. God of War Saga
  2. Heavy Rain
  3. inFamous
  4. Killzone 2
  5. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  6. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
  7. Starhawk
  8. Tale of Graces f
  9. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
  10. Valkyria Chronicles
Notes: I tried to stray away from as many sequels as I could unless only sequels appeared on the PS3. As for Metal Gear Solid 4, I have several friends who always wanted to get into the series but didn’t have the time so they downloaded the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database and then played MGS4 without issue so I listed it. inFamous 2 isn’t listed as it is free with PS+. Uncharted 2 and 3 will most likely be on a buyer’s mind after playing the first game.

10 Must Have Recent Non-Exclusives

  1. Battlefield 3: Premium Edition/Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  2. Borderlands 2
  3. Dark Souls
  4. Dishonored
  5. DMC: Devil May Cry
  6. Far Cry 3
  7. Mass Effect Trilogy
  8. Sleeping Dogs
  9. The Walking Dead
  10. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Notes: For the listing of both Battlefield 3 and Black Ops 2, it is really up to the owner which kind of FPS playstyle they like more so I added Battlefield in this list. DMC is the newest item on this Mega List but its rave reviews and fact that it actually is extremely fun got it on here.

10 Must Have Non-Recent Non-Exclusives

  1. Assassin’s Creed: Ezio Trilogy
  2. Batman: Arkham City
  3. Burnout Paradise
  4. Catherine
  5. Dragon Age: Origins – Ultimate Edition
  6. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
  7. L.A. Noire
  8. NIER
  9. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  10. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Notes: Although starting Assassin’s Creed with the Ezio Trilogy may be a bit confusing at first, the game does an alright job at bringing you up to speed. Catherine is a niche title but it is so unique and should be experienced by most players. NIER is a great underrated game, I will not change my mind on that. Skyrim may not have all the DLC on the PSN but it is still worth playing.

10 Games To Look Forward To In 2013

  1. Aliens: Colonial Marines
  2. BioShock Infinite
  3. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
  4. God of War: Ascension
  5. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
  6. Remember Me
  7. Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time
  8. The Last of Us
  9. Tomb Raider
  10. Watch_Dogs
Notes: Of course there’s rumors that Watch_Dogs may not be out in 2013 but I’m holding steady for a holiday release this year. Ni No Kuni is out next week, as of this writing. Remember Me looks like the first Capcom game I’m actually excited about in a long time.

5 Extra Exclusives To Check Out

  1. 3D Dot Game Heroes
  2. Folklore
  3. Siren: Blood Curse
  4. Tokyo Jungle
  5. Wipeout HD/Fury
Notes: Obviously the PS3 has a lot of good exclusives and 10 just isn’t going to cut it for this list. These five are great exclusives and I feel like Folklore didn’t get the recognition it deserved.

5 Must Have PSN Games

  1. Journey
  2. Papo & Yo
  3. PixelJunk Shooter
  4. Rock Band Blitz
  5. Trine 2
Notes: There are a ton more that are worthy of a purchase on PSN but these five are a great start that will keep you occupied for days and days.

5 Must Have PS1 Classics

  1. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
  2. Final Fantasy VII
  3. MediEvil
  4. Metal Gear Solid
  5. Resident Evil 2
Notes: The current selection of PS1 classics are a gold mine. These are my top five but honestly, you could spend a ton of money on the PS1 classics list and feel satisfied. Plus, being able to have Final Fantasy 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 on one system is an awesome thing.

5 Must Have Accessories

  1. PlayStation 3 DualShock 3 Wiresless Controller (any color)
  2. PlayStation Plus 3-Month Subscription Card
  3. PS3 DualShocks 3 Charging Station
  4. Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset
  5. Sony PS3 Media/Blu-Ray Disc Remote Control

Notes: With this list you’ll have an extra controller, PS+ for 3 months which gives you free games and discounts, a charging station for your two controllers, an awesome headset, and a remote for when using the media apps. That’s a great start and all necessary items.

I’d also recommend The Unfinished Swan, the Resistance series, and Little Big Planet (mostly because of all the great UGC on there). Otherwise, great list!
