The Top 5 Youtube Filmmakers
In the past several years, I have become more and more interested in the amazing content that is being produced every day on Youtube. This content ranges from short films to sketch comedy to gaming commentary. In the next few weeks, I will share some of my favorite Youtube content creators and series’ in the hope that more people will be aware of the incredible entertainment available on this platform.
Filmmaking is something that used to be generally reserved for Hollywood. Luckily, more advanced, cheaper cameras and equipment as well is the accessibility of Youtube have allowed some very creative people to make great short films on a budget. Here are my top five favorite Youtube filmmakers.
5. Wong Fu Productions
This trio from Southern California has created countless miniseries’ and shorts, each with very professional quality and writing. Wong Fu has worked with AT&T, Fremantle Media, and other big name companies for their various shorts and series’. Besides making videos on Youtube, Wong Fu operates the International Secret Agents (ISA) festivals, concerts that showcase Asian-American musicians. They also have a popular apparel brand, Are You a Nice Guy clothing.

4. Casey Neistat
Casey Neistat exemplifies the indie filmmaker. All of his films are shot on his iPhone, and he often makes videos that show handy ways to use everyday objects to save money. Yet his best videos show his travels, whether he is flying around the world until his money runs out or he is bicycling through New York City during Hurricane Sandy.

3. Devin Graham (“devinsupertramp”)
Graham is known for his videos depicting extreme sports ranging from the extreme (wingsuit racing and human slingshots) to the wacky (drifting on tricycles). His cinematography is always excellent, and his soundtracks are equally top notch.

2. Freddie Wong and Brandon Laatsch (“freddiew”)
Freddie and Brandon are among the most professional filmmakers on Youtube, working with several high-profile actors in their shorts. This year, they created an unprecedented webseries, “Video Game High School”, which was essentially a feature film split up into weekly episodes.

1. Corridor Digital
This production duo of Sam Gorski and Niko Pueringer consistently churns out great videos. They are perhaps most adept with special effects, and their shorts showcase their copious talent. They have also recently made their own feature-length web series, called Sync. Corridor Digital is one Youtube channel that I can say consistently wows me; of all the videos I have raved about to friends, I would say half of them are by Sam and Niko.
