The War Z Developer Claims Trademark Isn’t Suspended

Paramount, the developer of The War Z, the controversial zombie title currently removed from Steam, has told Kotaku that the game’s trademark has not been suspended despite reports that it had been invalidated in November.

“This is our actual trademark,” Sergey Titov – the game’s creator – said, adding: “I assume what you see is one of the preliminary applications since it said that it suspended because another application exists.”

“I’ve sent an email to our lawyer who filed the application and [we are] working with USTPO to provide more details on all this,” Titov commented, “so as soon as I’ll hear back I’ll forward you more details.”

The U.S Patent and Trademark Office’s file on The War Z patent can be seen here, the document clearly marks the patent as suspended.

“The USPTO will periodically conduct a status check of the application to determine whether suspension remains appropriate, and the trademark examining attorney will issue as needed an inquiry letter to applicant regarding the status of the matter on which suspension is based,” the filing reads.
