Star Trek: The Video Game Launching April 23, 2013

Namco Bandai and Paramount Pictures announced that Star Trek: The Video Game will be hitting store shelves on April 23, 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.  The PS3 and PC have the added benefit of being available through digital download, if that is your preferred method.  This game is a continuation of the story line created in the J.J. Abrams’ film Star Trek that was released in 2009.  Star Trek: The Video Game will feature an entirely new story penned by Marianne Krawczyk, who also was a writer for God of War.

Pre-order start tomorrow at select retailers.  For those who decide to pre-order the game, there is an exclusive Elite Officer Pack which has a myriad of weapons and costumes that Kirk and Spock can use.  Digital Extremes will be developing Star Trek, who has a pretty good track record of shooters.  They’re mostly a company that helps out on other projects and hasn’t made a lot of games which they have solely developed.  The last game in which they were the only developer on, The Darkness II, was received pretty well by the both critics and the public, so let’s hope that Star Trek doesn’t fall under the same licensed dreck that people have been accustomed to.

It’s also important to note that this game is shipping only weeks before Stark Trek Into Darkness hits theaters on May 17, 2013, which is the sequel to 2009’s film.  It’s unclear whether this game is going to be a bridge of some sort between the first and second movies, but it’s definite that the story of the game is going to be set in the same canon as the movies.
