BioWare Reveals Mass Effect 4’s Tentative Release Period
UPDATE 2: GamerSyndrome has informed Eurogamer that their information came from an “unreliable source” and is investigating the matter. EA has also told Eurogamer that neither they nor BioWare were ever contacted by GamerSyndrome.
UPDATE 1: BioWare has revealed that an interview, which purportedly revealed Mass Effect 4’s release window, was fabricated and the studio has not issued any release date for the title. The interview has since been retracted by GamerSyndrome.
BioWare have described the interview as “completely false.”
It should be noted that it was suspicious as the interviewee was not named in the piece.
ORIGINAL STORY: In a GamerSyndrome interview with an unnamed BioWare staffer the tentative release window of Mass Effect 4 – late 2014 to mid 2015 – has been revealed.
The BioWare employee said the studio’s next foray into the Mass Effect universe would come in “late 2014 to mid 2015. I honestly can’t tell you an exact because full development on the game started a month or two ago.”
He/she also commented that: “You’ll hear more about the new Mass Effect game in 2013.”
Mass Effect 4 will not feature series’ protagonist Commander Shepard and it is not yet clear whether the game will be a prequel or sequel to the trilogy released to date. The game is being developed by BioWare Montreal, the creators of Mass Effect’s 3 multiplayer, rather than BioWare Edmonton which oversaw the making of the Shepard trilogy.
The title is being produced with DICE’s Frostbite 2 Engine and given the release time-frame will likely be a next-gen game. BioWare have asked fans what they want to see in the title and promised the game would be “respectful” to the rest of the series.
