Call of Duty: Black Ops II Sells $500 Million in First 24 Hours

The fine folks at Activision are celebrating today as CEO Bobby Kotic trotted out the company’s annual announcement of Call of Duty being the “biggest entertainment launch of the year”.

Black Ops II managed to sell more than $500 million dollars worth of game within 24 hours of its release worldwide, which Kotic points to as being bigger numbers than even the Harry Potter or Star Wars film franchises. Of course, we’re talking about a video game vs. films, but numbers are numbers, and they certainly don’t lie here.

Black Ops II also managed to be one of the top trending subjects on Twitter and attracted millions of fans at thousands of locations to line up for its midnight release.

Consequently, it’s also the reason that offices around the country manged to contract this crazy “illness” that left many with no option other than to call in sick for work the day of its release. *Wink wink.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Look for it on the Wii U soon.
