Diablo 3 Expansion Confirmed

In a third quarter earnings call, CEO of Blizzard Mike Morhaime confirmed what we all thought would happen: Diablo 3 is getting an expansion. Unfortunately, that’s all he said about the matter. He went on to talk about how Diablo 3 has sold over 10 million units since launching in May and Bobby Kotick of Activision attested to that number by saying it is the biggest PC game in terms of units and sales since release.

That’s all fine and dandy. Congrats to them. How about some details though, boys? You don’t always have to be on a big stage to announce stuff. Sigh…

Still, it is great news that a expansion had been confirmed for Diablo 3. Mr. Morhaime talked about how quality and gameplay of the expansion are at the top of the list for the team. No timeframe for release was given so this could be far off, as well.

I took to WordPress months ago to talk about six expansions that would make sense for Diablo 3. The game has so much potential for expansions that one just isn’t going to cut it. I also theorized that a Diablo 4 may be just impossible due to what has happened in the story. A reboot of sorts where they reset the world and introduce new heroes and characters seems to be the only logical step outside of more and more expansions for Diablo 3.

I wonder if the missing PvP feature will come with the expansion.

Diablo 3 has recently been updated to 1.0.5 introducing many changes to the game’s systems in a continuing effort to bring the game closer to what fans have been picketing for since release.
