Wii U Shortages Expected For the Holidays
Nintendo has expressed concern that an impending Wii U shortage is likely this holiday season, giving us reason to believe it’s more than likely you’ll see a repeat of moms duking it out WWE style over consoles like we did six years ago at the launch of the Wii.
After major retailers worldwide have completely sold out of pre-orders, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has acknowledged the fact that demand for the Wii U is in danger of exceeding the company’s supply.
“It has now become more likely that it is our production capacity, rather than consumer demand, that will place limits on our Wii U prospects for this calendar year,” he said, also adding that the company will be doing its best to continually ship units “without interruption” after launch in order to meet the demand of the new console. Nintendo plans to ship 5.5 million units at launch, selling them at a loss for $300 and $350 bundles. Interestingly, the majority of pre-orders have been for the $350 deluxe edition.
