A lot of people think playing video games is a waste of time. Video games can actually boost your brain power. Here's how it works and the benefits.
I Hate It When…
I’m not a hater by nature. I’ll usually put up with something I don’t like just to experience the good, but I am going to take this soapbox for a second and call out some of my personal gripes. I could be one of many, or I could be chugging some haterade, but here is a list of things that I just really don’t like to happen to me while I am enjoying my video games.
I hate it when…
I Can’t Toggle Crouch: Of all the items on this list, this is probably the most inexcusable. I’m sure there are people out there who would rather hold the crouch button down to crouch for an extended period. That’s cool. I am not one of those people. It may be a small thing, heck it may be a coding nightmare for all I know. I just know I hate it. I have to have crouch toggled, or I won’t even use it. It’s hard for me to dual wield a button and the right stick with my thumb. Am I alone on this?
I Die Strictly Because Of The Camera: Because, you know, that sucks. Maybe an enemy gets stuck in the geometry off camera and blasts you to death (I’m looking at you Borderlands 2. Twice!) Or maybe the camera shifts just as you are jumping over that spiky chasm. Or possibly the worst, when a critical objective item is placed off-camera and rendered unobtainable, forcing a restart. Really anything bad that camera problems facility, I don’t care for. Granted, this isn’t as bad as it once was, but yes, it still happens.
I Can’t Pause Or Skip Cutscenes: Usually this isn’t a problem for me, because I enjoy a good cutscene, but sometimes I need to get a pizza out of the oven, and an unexpected cutscene popped up on me. The start button seems to stop working, and my pizza is burning? Do I sacrifice a crucial plot point or my pepperonis? Neither, I say! And while we’re at it, I want to have the option to skip cutscenes, conversations or really anything I want. This is especially bad when being forced to rewatch a cutscene for the fourth time because I keep dying on the boss right after it.
I Get Killed While Reloading: This is obviously a personal choice, but if there’s one thing that really grinds my gears, it’s dying while reloading. I know it’s my fault. Clearly, that was a bad time to reload. But I just hate it. I’m bad about this, but it’s even worse when I needlessly reload, you know? I shoot like two bullets and kill a guy, then blindly run around a corner while replacing my whole clip for two bullets. I’m still waiting on a game that punishes me for doing that…maybe break the habit or something.
A Friend Logs In Just As I Maybe Do Something In A Game: You know what I’m talking about? Example: You’re running around in Borderlands, and you snipe the head of a bandit whilst falling off a cliff. Clearly an awesome act, and, just as you do it, the familiar achievement chime rings out… and it’s just Shawn1709 logging into Xbox Live. Am I the only person who dies a little when that happens, or am I just the only one who knows what I’m talking about? Please let me know.
