New PlayStation 3 redesign confirmed, coming later this year (UPDATED!)
UPDATE: The newly-designed PS3, in black and with 250GB of storage, will launch here in the United States on September 25th for $270. Included in the package is a “Game of the Year” edition for Uncharted 3, as well as a voucher that can be redeemed for $30 of in-game content for Dust 514, a free-to-play first-person shooter. As for the 500GB model, it will launch on October 30th. It will be a limited edition Assassin’s Creed III bundle, though Sony did not specify a white model for the US. The original story is below.
ORIGINAL: A few days ago, we reported a rumor that Sony would be launching a newer, slimmer PlayStation 3. It seems the rumors were indeed confirmed, as Sony officially announced a new redesign to the PlayStation 3 at Tokyo Game Show.
For this second redesign, Sony will release two super fun colors: 250GB and 500 GB in “Charcoal Black” and a 250GB model in “Classic White.” While the black model hits stores on October 4th, the white model will launch on November 22nd. In addition, Sony states the newly redesigned PlayStation 3 is 50% smaller than the original PlayStation 3 and 25% smaller than the slim PlayStation 3. Even so, it will retain the same price as the current PlayStation 3 model.
