3DS XL, New Super Mario Bros. 2 Launch Successfully in Japan

Officially released on Saturday, both the 3DS XL and New Super Mario Bros. 2 have experienced respectful sales numbers in Japan.

The 3DS re-design, which boasts a larger screen and improved system performance over its predecessor, managed to move over 193,000 units within two days of being on the market. The system has also managed to outperform both the DSi and DSi XL in launch numbers within the same time frame.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 managed to sell a whopping 430,185 copies within its launch weekend. The game is the follow-up to the 3DS game New Super Mario Bros. and looks to carry on the legacy of 2D Mario games, bringing back iconic conventions such as raccoon mode and the collection of gold coins.

Both the 3DS XL and NSMB2 will launch in North America on August 19th.
