Kaz Hirai Steps Down From Sony Computer Entertainment
In an effort to re-focus his attention on his responsibilities as Sony’s President and CEO, Kaz Hirai has stepped down from his responsibilities as Sony Computer Entertainment representative director and Chairman.
This comes off the heels of Hirai replacing former Sony CEO Howard Stringer. Hirai has been instrumental on building Sony’s PlayStation brand in the past, and has said that he hopes to use the brand to help Sony recover from its financial woes.
While he will remain a part-time board member of SCE, stepping down from his role within the division will give him the chance to rebuild Sony and change it the way he sees fit.
No word on if Kevin Butler will be replacing him as SCE’s chairman, but we’re staying hopeful.
