GameStop, Best Buy To Start Selling $99 Xbox
Despite what you may think of the new $99 Xbox, and you already know what we think of it, you can’t deny that it is getting more consoles into the hands of those who don’t have them. They are of course wringing a ridiculous amount of money out of said people, but that is beside the point. In the spirit of selling more consoles, Xbox announced that the new subscription-based model will soon be available at GameStop and Best Buy.
Before this news, the only place to pick one of these bad boys up was at an official Microsoft store. Deciding that this wasn’t making them enough money, Microsoft made the decision to move their product through the new outlets.
Xbox’s Major Nelson made the announcement, but stressed that this is still a pilot program, and not likely to become the industry norm. It seems like a blatant bait-and-switch to me, but what do you guys think? Is this a model you would like to see continued?
