Is Tomb Raider becoming Uncharted?
It had always seemed to me that Uncharted was heavily influenced by Tomb Raider. Where as Tomb Raider is more of a puzzle based, dungeon crawl third-person game, Uncharted has a bit more action and excitement. Nathan Drake was meant to be a both Indiana Jones, and a male version of Lara Croft.
Now with the release of the new Tomb Raider game, I find myself grinding my teeth and at a loss for words. Tomb Raider has become Uncharted. Now whether this is a good or bad direction for the franchise is unimportant, but it needs to be remarked that perhaps what made one of the longest running video game series unique has left us.
Did Tomb Raider need to be more action packed? Do we have to see Lara Croft getting beat to hell while flowing down a river, then into an old airplane, then into the tree tops of some mountains? Of course these are just assumptions, but from the gameplay trailer maybe this series that has been running for over 15 years is going to redefine itself.
