Characters That Don’t Need An HD Remake
One of my favorite things about this gaming generation is seeing all my favorite classics get re-mastered in sweet, sweet high definition. However, there is a dark side to this trend. Let’s take a look at some of the characters who should probably stay SD.
Oh my God, what the f**k is that thing? Seriously? Is that curly thing on its head a nose, or part of his hat.? Or an alien growth? Or a tumor? All I know is Geno scares the s**t out of me, and, as much as I would love to see him in a Smash Bros. game, I think he might be best in 16-bits. The worst part is, his character is a doll that gets possessed by some…weird…Mario star…thing. Some parent let their child play with this thing. No wonder the Mushroom Kingdom is so messed up.
Technically he already has an HD game (Dissidia), but I’m going to forget that game happened for just a lifetime. I don’t think there’s really much I need to say here, as it’s pretty obvious why Kefka shouldn’t be rendered that well, so I’ll keep it brief. In Final Fantasy VI, Kefka was scary, unhinged and one of the absolute best antagonists ever, bar none. This Kefka looks like he needs his own Sunday morning cartoon in Japan. Point: SNES.
It’s just not working. Let’s go back to when she was good. Remember that, Nintendo? Do you? Plus I have this sneaking suspicion that she is totally ugly.
Call of Duty
I’m only half-joking here. Yes, they are recent games that are already in HD, but the greed of Activision knows no bounds. I can already see Call of Duty HD: The HD Collection coming out, and destroying the world. And no, I don’t care that it’s 120% more HD-ier. I just want it to go away.
I’m conflicted about this. On the one hand, I love Mega Man as much as anybody (except maybe Ron), and would love to see a proper Mega Man game in all its HD glory. On the other hand, I know Capcom is just going to give it to some Western studio that is going to crap all over it. I refuse to let the Blur Bomber be soiled in any way, so I think it’s best to just enjoy the classics, and hope they keep releasing more titles in the vein of Mega Man 8 & 9.
Anybody you want to see kept in the 90’s? Or maybe a character you think would look particularly good in HD? Drop us a line.
