The End Of Major League Baseball 2K May Be Near
At the end of today’s Take-Two Interactive investor call, the company signaled that their long-running baseball franchise, Major League Baseball 2K, could be coming to an end.
According to Kotaku’s Owen Good, Take-Two left out the Major League Baseball franchise when speaking of their planned franchises for this coming year. When asked to confirm if MLB 2K was finished, Take-Two might have done just that:
“Our legacy Major League Baseball agreement will sunset in fiscal 2013. MLB 2K12 is our last offering under that agreement. At this time, we have no further comment.”
This wouldn’t come as much of a surprise, as MLB The Show outperforms MLB 2K on an annual basis. Not even a million-dollar perfect game contest would have saves it.
As Good mentions, this would leave NBA 2K as the only annual sports franchise under Take-Two’s umbrella.
Here’s my question: when is EA’s contract with the NFL up? Perhaps 2K is positioning to take back the NFL license…naaaaahhhhh.
