Blizzard Responds to Diablo III Account Hack Rumors
Some Diablo III players have been reporting that their accounts had been stolen in the week since release, and today Blizzard stepped forward and addressed the issue.
Speaking through a post on the Diablo III Community Forums, a community manager known as “Bashiok” stated the following:
We’ve been taking the situation extremely seriously from the start, and have done everything possible to verify how and in what circumstances these compromises are occurring. Despite the claims and theories being made, we have yet to find any situations in which a person’s account was not compromised through traditional means of someone else logging into their account through the use of their password. While the authenticator isn’t a 100% guarantee of account security, we have yet to investigate a compromise report in which an authenticator was attached beforehand.
If your account has been hacked, please view the previous post for information on contacting our support department
I don’t know that there’s ever been a more difficult launch than Diablo III. First the rampant connection errors that caused players to fear the number 37 more than Diablo himself, and now reports of hacks. All the more surprising is that this is happening for a game TWELVE YEARS IN THE MAKING.
I can’t wait until the first expansion comes out. What’ll happen then?
