Who is the best “Talker” in the WWE?
A great man once said “opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one”. Truer words were probably never said. That is exactly the point of this article. I want to know who YOU think is the best “talker” in the WWE today. When I say “talker” I mean who does the best mike work? Who do YOU actually stop and listen to when they go on a rant rather than fast forward the DVR? There are a few names that come to mind when I think of the best mike workers of the past. Names like “The Hot Rod” Rowdy Roddy Piper (Pipers Pit … whenever he grabbed a mike I got goosebumps), Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Arn Anderson(When he got to talk he was golden) and even The Ultimate Warrior(I know, He didn’t make much sense but maybe that’s what made him so good, you sat and listened to try and figure out just what the hell he was talking about). Then we move to the “Attitude” era where you had guys like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, Edge, and even Mick Foley(cheap pops and all). These guys could make a crowd love them or hate them not only in the ring but whenever they got a hold of a microphone.
But enough reminiscing … I want to know who YOU think rates up there with the likes of these guys when it comes to talking on the mike. My opinion (Yes, I have one of those too) would have to be Dolph Zigler and Cody Rhodes. These guys are just working the crowds not only in the ring (even though they have tremendous talent) but also on the mike, now that they finally are getting their shot. Personally I cant stand when a guy come along who does great in the ring but then gets on the mike and bores the hell out of you. There have been a few of those. Then there are guys who have no talent either in ring or on mike (Mr Executive Vice President in charge of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis, I am looking at you). I believe if Vince McMahon lets more of these guys open up on the microphones you would find a few gems. You would also have a few duds but that’s the chance you take.So lets put this to a vote. Comment and let me know who YOU think is the best talker in the WWE today and I will post the results in my next article.
